Ladies, do you need an interpreter when planning your remodeling project? You know someone who speaks the same language as you do. Someone who can pick up on all the little things that you really need or want in your next addition or kitchen makeover.
Someone like another woman.
Do you sometimes feel like you’re not being taken seriously or even overlooked in an industry dominated by men? I feel your pain. Even though I’ve spent my whole career working in the home building and remodeling industry I still see how women need an advocate for their voice to be heard and understood. I’m very fortunate. I’m married to “Joe” a Master Carpenter who can build or fix almost anything. The problem is he’s a guy. When we plan a project at home it usually goes something like this:
Me: “Hon, I really think our family room needs to be updated, don’t you?”
Joe: “Uh, huh… what were you thinking?”
Me: “Well, I saw these new bamboo floors and I really like them. And then as long we were redoing the floors I always wanted to replace the banister with an oak handrail & those black iron balusters. The ones that look like little bird cages, like my sister’s house in Alabama, remember? And I really want to paint a really neutral beige…. but I want one wall of just blue.. What do you think?”
Silence
Me: “Joe, did you hear what I said?”
Me: “Could please turn off the golf?”
Does any of this sound familiar? I lost Joe somewhere when I started talking about bird cages on our stairs. After that Joe heard something that sounded like Charlie Brown’s teacher… whah, whah…whhah, whaha . You see women are gatherers. We gather information. Lots and lots of little bits of information. We research, review and then shop. Then decide and even then were not sure. We need to ask our mother’s, our girlfriends our sisters, our coworkers…Guys on the other hand are hunters. They go in for the kill and that’s it. Find it, buy it, build it and use it. It’s all very simple to them.
So once a week I will address common remodeling questions & information for kitchen makeovers, bathroom remodels, additions, you know the usual stuff .. And then my new favorites; Storage & Organizing, Rooms Men Love, Outdoor living and much more. Plus once a month I will send you my favorite tips, trends, products or just plain “I think you might like this” information. All from the perspective of a woman.
I really hope this info will help you in your next project. So stay tuned..
